société(haps): coco after dark

Coco Before Chanel chronicles the life of Coco Chanel from her early years at the orphanage and at the cabaret where she worked as a singer, to Chanel’s volatile romances and success as a designer. The film also weaves in the origins of her different signature looks --  peter pan collars,  jersey fabrics and mens' shirts. Audrey Tautou gives a powerful performance as Chanel and reminds us that there was actually a very real person, with her own faults and triumphs behind the brand that we know today.

I went to a screening of Coco Before Chanel hosted by Blvd., which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. The night was even more enjoyable with food, cocktails, music and a trunk show of vintage Chanel. On a personal note, I was featured in the Street Chic Vlog, which documented all the fashionistas in attendance and their Chanel addictions. Watch below,

love(notes): alexis mabille

Alexis Mabille for CoutureLab

As you know, I have a serious thing for bow ties so it should come as no surprise that I just happen to love Alexis Mabille. His designs really want me to go into my craft room and get to sewing, but I have cast off making any more bow ties since my wedding.

design(mode): axdw

It is closing day of Athens Xclusive Designers Week (AXDW) which is Greece's fashion week. First started May of 2007, AXDW is the most important event in the Greek fashion industry. And it takes place in twice a year - spring and fall - just like like all the other international fashion weeks.

mag(rac): harper's bazaar

I know it's the end of the month, so featuring the Harper's Bazaar October issue comes a little late but it is still very timely. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will open a retrospective of filmmaker Tim Burton on November 22, 2009 through April 26, 2010. In anticipation of this event (read: publicity darlings) Burton's movie characters were fashionized for a Harper's Bazaar shoot. If you have been following me for awhile, you know I love almost every single Tim Burton production so this gets two thumbs up and let's go ahead & throw in two toes for the holiday spirit. Speaking of which, today is HALLOWEEN. Hope this isn't coming as a surprise to you and now you have to go and scramble through your closet for a costume. Regardless, maybe you will find some inspiration here...

intrigue(motif): mirrored furnishings

Mirrored Bureau
I don't know how practical these are for the long-term and I don't know if I am just going through a phase, but I have a real itch for mirrored furniture. I need to have a serious talk with my fiancé but I am dreaming of having these pieces or their close relatives in my life in the near future.

idle(prattle): thank you, kind of

Thanks Schmanks

I have about ten thank-you notes that I have procrastinated in writing. I am a little old fashion and write thank-you notes that require the services of the post office. Yes, sometimes it is just easier to shoot off an email, but for certain occasions I just think real paper is needed. It also takes a little more effort, hence my laziness. But I know I still get very excited when I get a piece of mail that is not a bill & that unexpected thank-you note can make someone's day. Plus, since I have a secret love affair with stationery it all works out. I like looking for note cards that are unique and often imagine having a stationery box filled with cards for any occasion -- thank you for alerting me about that sample sale -- when I am trying to conjure the spirit of Martha Stewart. But right now I just have a designated drawer in my desk. Also, friends' parents aside, my thank you notes tend to be a little snarky.

Thanks Man
